Luminaries

A man with wavy red hair stands against a colorful, gradient-lit background holding a violin and bow. He is wearing a dark suit with a black shirt and a red pocket square, smilling slightly at the camera.

LUMINARIES

MARCH 13–15, 2026

Daniel Hope, Music Director and Concertmaster

Bold innovation and exceptional virtuosity converge to reflect the many ways music can illuminate. Two of San Francisco’s shining composers, Jake Heggie and Nathaniel Stookey, premiere works inspired by New Century’s spirit, honoring its past while imagining new possibilities. Bologne’s vibrant violin concerto restores a long-overlooked brilliance to the spotlight, and Tchaikovsky’s Souvenir de Florence culminates in a rich cascade of melody and emotion. Each piece offers its own light, forming a constellation of artistry, legacy, and brilliance.

A man with short gray hair sits with his right hand resting against his chin, which is holding a pencil. He is wearing a white dress shirt and a blue blazer. He is looking into the camera with a slight smile.

A man with touseled light brown hair stands outdoors in front of a dark mesh background. The collar of his blue dress shirt with stripes is visible. He is looking directly at the camera with a slight smile.
