Deborah Tien Price, Violin
Deborah began working as a substitute with NCCO in the 1998-99 season while studying at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and has served as a member and board member since 2001.
Since moving to the Bay Area in 1997, Deborah has performed with many local ensembles including the Santa Rosa Symphony, Best of Broadway SF Orchestra, SF Chamber Orchestra, SF Lyric Opera, Alexander String Quartet, California Symphony, Composer’s, Inc., and The Left Coast Chamber Ensemble, and has played on many film and commercial recordings. She has also taught violin and chamber music at the Marin Conservatory of Music, the SF Community Music Center, and The Crowden School.
Deborah’s move to the Bay Area was prompted by an invitation by famed violin teacher, Camilla Wicks. Prior to that, she earned degrees at the Eastman School of Music and Louisiana State University, studying with Lynn Blakeslee and Camilla Wicks. She then moved to Norway, where she performed as a principal player in the BarrattDue Chamber Orchestra, and with the Norwegian Opera Orchestra, the Norwegian Radio Orchestra, and on NRK, the national television network of Norway. In addition, Deborah served as a Teaching Fellow at the Unversity of Colorado in Boulder, allowing her to work with the Takács Quartet. She has enjoyed participating in many music festivals such as Apple Hill, Bravo!, and Bowdoin, and was a member of the quartet-in-residence at the Brevard Music Festival. Deborah has also toured with chamber ensembles and orchestras throughout Norway and the US, often premiering new works.
Deborah resides in Mill Valley with her husband, violinist and composer Evan Price of the Turtle Island String Quartet and the Hot Club of San Francisco.
