Marketing and Public Relations Coordinator
ORGANIZATION: The New Century Chamber Orchestra is a San Francisco-based 17-piece string chamber orchestra that performs without a conductor. The Orchestra presents four sets of subscription concerts annually in Berkeley, Palo Alto, San Francisco and San Rafael, an annual fundraising gala, and 10 to 15 education concerts. The FY08 operating budget is $950,000. The Orchestra has just named Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg as its new Music Director, with a 3 year contract that begins in the 2008-09 season.
MISSION: The mission of the New Century Chamber Orchestra is to be a virtuoso, conductorless ensemble, which creates – through performance, education and accessibility – a personal connection with its audience, conveying the passion and joy of the music directly to its listeners.
POSITION: The Marketing and PR Coordinator reports to the Director of Development and Marketing and is responsible for executing earned income strategies and public relations at the New Century Chamber Orchestra. The person in this position wears many hats, and thus this opportunity provides a comprehensive insight into the ownership of all PR and Marketing functions.
Marketing responsibilities include:
• Work closely with the Director of Development and Marketing to draft Marketing Plans
• Assist the Director of Development and Marketing with executing annual subscription campaign and single ticket campaigns
• Coordinate telemarketing callers and draft telemarketing scripts
• Work with external design firm to produce highly effective direct mail subscription brochures in a timely way
• Produce program books, postcards, posters, and other print pieces
• Coordinate graphic designers, photographers, and videographers as necessary
• Manage mailing list exchanges
• Run queries in MS Access database
• Create special offers and implement new audience development strategies
• Liaison with box offices throughout the season
• Process all subscriptions, single ticket orders and exchanges
• Manage and grow customer database
• Maximize earned income from sales of merchandise at concerts and online
• Present updates at Board meetings
• Coordinate front of house activities (will call, merchandise table, concessions, etc.) at concerts
• Update www.ncco.org and NCCO profiles and media content on social networking websites such as YouTube, Myspace, and Facebook.
• Draft and circulate online monthly e-newsletter
• Other duties as assigned by the Director of Development and Marketing or the Executive Director
Public Relations responsibilities include:
• Draft and distribute press releases for the season, all concerts and special events
• Circulate releases and photos by email or mail to editors and writers
• Follow-up listing placements with key publications and websites
• Other duties as assigned by the Director of Development and Marketing or the Executive Director
QUALIFICATIONS OF IDEAL CANDIDATE:
• Strong project management skills
• Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
• Willingness to become “the face” of the NCCO to patrons through ongoing communications
• Initiative to continually improve the NCCO’s PR and Marketing
• Ability to work without supervision
• Ability to handle creative as well as administrative tasks
• Knowledge of Classical Music
• Knowledge of database programs (MS Access, SQL queries)
• Knowledge of computer programs (Microsoft Office, Photoshop, InDesign, and Dreamweaver)
• HTML experience a plus
• Experience within a non-profit company a plus

Volunteering
